We were downstairs at 6:30am for a very early breakfast to be at SECC for the no-breakfast breakfast session and we were really glad that we did have breakfast before we left as there was not even any coffee left when we got there about 7:30am. We had two great presentations in this breakfast session from Marwan and Petra.
It was then time for mornos before Steve and I co-chaired the next session Putting health logistics into clinical pharmacy. One of our presenters (from China) was not able to get a visa to get into the UK, even after we went to all the effort of accommodating his presentation into the programme, so we were able to spend more time on questions for the speakers. We still almost managed to go overtime! We had presentations from Nicolas, Mel, and Nics. The presentation from Nics was titled The UK military Ice Maidens expedition to cross Antarctica and whilst it had nothing to do with the theme of the session, it was a very interesting presentation that got a lot of people thinking and talking.
Lunch was another paper bag affair, and then it was time for the MEPS Business Meeting where I was asked to not submit a self-nomination for continuing being a VP, despite being asked by at least 10 people if I could continue to be a VP. I understand why I was asked to stand-down, but for neither Sylvain nor Jane to stand up and explain why was not very nice. Not to worry, I will still be the Communications Officer which is the bigger of the jobs which is not ideal. Anyway, Halim was voted in un-opposed and l hope he can talk the talk as well as he walks the walk.
The second session of the day started after the Business Meeting and this time all four presenters managed to turn up so it was a very full session. The second last speaker even managed to ruffle a few military feathers; his presentation was not well received by many. The theme of the session was Supply chain solutions to strengthen emergency and disaster response with presentations from Yohei, Frederik, Mauricio (controversial), and Alex.
It was then time to head back to the hotel, change the shirt and walk the short distance to the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow for the MEPS Dinner. This year it was more formal than it has been in years and everyone really enjoyed the evening and even the formalities that went with a military dinner which was quite surprising as many of the civvies are from NGOs who normally detest anything associated with the military. At least the walk home was not too long as it started to spit not long after we left.
